Chris Sissons Christmas Letter 2021
This will give you some idea what Sheffield buses are like.
We found the Worcester Sauce factory is still in Worcester, despite rumours it's moved to Birmingham. But of course, there is something better ...
I've written a Clerihew about HR:
The virtues of Hendersons Relish
Are hard to embellish:
People smack their lips,
When they put it on their chips!
If you're reading this, you will have reveived my card. I thought it might be an idea to make contact after a few years, to let you know I'm still alive!
I'm now officially a Twirly. "A Twirly", you respond, "What can he possibly mean by that?" In Sheffield if you're a pensioner and want to use the bus before 9.30am, you have to pay. After that until whatever the Council deems to be our bedtime, we ride for free! Hence the question on every pensioner's lips as they board the bus, "Am I too early?"
I avoided the buses at first because of the Pandemic and this meant ... well, put it this way, Google sends me a summary of where I've been each month, in case I forget, presumably. For several months I received photoes of supermarkets. Post second and third vaccines, I've dared to use the buses, inhabited mostly by people who've lost their masks even though they're prone to hacking coughs. Still Covid hasn't caught me yet.
Despite all this lack of excitement I have managed to get around, most notably to Worcester with my sister and family in June for a weekend to make up for last Christmas, which didn't happen. We also visited Tewkesbury that has a fascinating confluence of rivers. It also has a riverside open air cafe that sells npthing but sctoch eggs and salad. They have meat, vegetarian and vegan varieties. The vegetarian scotch is a boiled egg. The vegan option is just the salad. Actually, I had the vegetarian version and it was similar to the meat version. Don't know about the vegan - maybe they just swop the label. But if you are a scotch egg aficionado, it could be worth the effort.
Most of my time is taken up with my business, "Market Together". I specialise in helping businesses use stories for marketing and business development. This includes coaching and twice a month I run "Telling Stories: Making Business". This is an opportunity for a business owner to share a story and receive feedback from other business owners. Follow "Telling Stories" in the navigation to see the programme in the New Year.
I also produce a Podcast, called "Find Tell Share" with my co-host, Jemma Rosenthal. Each month we find a guest and persuade them to tell a story, as well as exploring other story-related topics. You'll find links to the latest at the foot of this page. The December Podcast is with guest Debbie Bridge, a Voiceover Actor.
Jemma, my co-host has just released, over the last few days a new video. She was assisted by Paul Stinson of Hovaloft, who shared his story a few weeks ago. A creative partnership? If you agree, please like their video.
Some of you might recognise the church as the Upper Chapel on Norfolk Street. where my father worshipped for several years.
FInally, I've settled into my new Church, St Andrews Psalter Lane, a Methodist Anglican LEP. They held a carol service in the car park on the 19th December and this is one of the Sheffield Carols they sang amidst lots of lights and giant puppets. I should add this is one of many Sheffield Carols, sung in pubs usually! The words and arrangements vary. I prefer "They cheer us on our heavenly way" but there you go ...
Here's the lastest three Podcasts and you can find the rest under Stories in the Navigation.
